Seminar on HIV for healthcare workers of Akmola region

On January 20, 2021, a seminar-meeting on HIV infection was held for regional medical workers. The speakers of the event were S. Burmaganova, head of the medical and prophylactic department of the Akmola regional AIDS center, epidemiologist G. Sirazhidenova, laboratory assistant L. Maslova.

It is gratifying that thanks to the well-coordinated work of the center's specialists with interested departments in 2020, the number of newly diagnosed HIV-infected people has decreased from 146 in 2019 to 114 people.

The structure of detecting HIV infection has changed: the number of people infected by intravenous drug injection has significantly decreased, but the rate of sexual transmission of infection has increased, which requires further preventive work among the population of fertile age, especially with key populations at risk of infection.

In addition, the speakers gave recommendations on ways to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV infection and informed about the additions to the normative documents on HIV infection to the responsible persons on HIV and AIDS from the regional medical organizations.
