Seminar for Obstetricians and Gynecologists

 A training seminar was held at the HIV Prevention Center on the prevention of vertical transmission of HIV, as well as the testing of pregnant women and their sexual partners. The seminar was organized following the results of the first quarter of 2026.

The seminar was opened by D.V. Panchenko, Acting Director of the HIV Prevention Center. He emphasized the importance of strictly following the recommended schedule and frequency of testing pregnant women for HIV, syphilis, and viral hepatitis in accordance with current guidelines. Timely laboratory testing is a crucial condition for the early detection of infections and the prevention of vertical transmission of HIV.

B.K. Kultanova, Head of the Epidemiological Department, presented the HIV epidemiological situation in Astana for the first quarter of 2026 in comparison with the same period of 2025. She also reviewed key epidemiological indicators among pregnant women and their sexual partners, as well as achieved results and upcoming priorities.

G.A. Sakupova, an epidemiologist at the HIV Prevention Center, drew the attention of obstetricians and gynecologists to the compilation of lists of pregnant women and the testing of their sexual partners by medical organization. The seminar also addressed the reasons why some medical organizations had not reached the target indicators, as well as measures to achieve 95% coverage.

B.A. Äbdirakhman, an infectious disease specialist at the Treatment and Prevention Department, focused on outpatient pregnancy management for women with HIV-positive status as part of efforts to prevent vertical transmission of HIV. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of testing pregnant women admitted to maternity hospitals without prior HIV testing by conducting a single rapid HIV test. The need to optimize the patient pathway to ensure the prompt receipt and assessment of rapid test results was also highlighted.

The purpose of the seminar was to raise awareness and strengthen the professional competence of healthcare workers in HIV prevention and diagnosis, the prevention of vertical transmission of HIV, and timely diagnosis and treatment.
