Astana hosted a mini-football tournament among students of colleges in the capital as part of events dedicated to the International Day of Remembrance for People Who Have Died of AIDS.

The event was organized by the Astana City Akimat’s HIV Prevention Center to raise young people’s awareness of HIV prevention, the importance of timely testing, and the need to prevent stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.

The tournament brought young people together around the values of remembrance, solidarity, a healthy lifestyle, and a responsible approach to their health.

The event also included a themed quiz on HIV prevention. Participants were able to test their knowledge, receive reliable information, and win memorable prizes.

In addition, an information and consultation booth operated at the venue. Specialists from the HIV Prevention Center provided consultations on HIV, its transmission routes, prevention measures, and the importance of regular HIV testing. Anyone interested could also take a rapid HIV test.

Denis Panchenko, Acting Director of the Astana City Akimat’s HIV Prevention Center, noted that the International Day of Remembrance for People Who Have Died of AIDS serves as a reminder of society’s shared responsibility for prevention and support for people living with HIV.

“Today, HIV is a manageable infection, and timely testing and treatment make it possible to maintain a high quality of life. Our task is to speak openly about prevention, promote a culture of regular testing, and support people living with HIV without stigma or discrimination,” Denis Panchenko emphasized.

To further inform the public, HIV prevention materials were placed on the facade of the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company JSC building. According to the organizers, this will help draw the attention of a wider audience to HIV prevention and the importance of regular testing.
