On May 20, as part of the Law and Order program, the final preventive event “Safety Route: Against Drugs and HIV Infection” was held in Petropavlovsk. The event was organized by the Regional HIV Prevention Center in cooperation with the Youth Resource Center of Petropavlovsk.

The event took place at the G. Musrepov North Kazakhstan Children’s and Youth Library and marked the conclusion of information and awareness-raising activities carried out among students throughout the current academic year. Participants included students from colleges across Petropavlovsk.

Throughout the school year, specialists conducted lectures, meetings, interactive sessions, and preventive discussions in educational institutions on HIV prevention, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), the dangers of drug use, and the importance of developing a responsible attitude toward one’s health. During the final event, participants demonstrated the knowledge they had gained by taking part in тематical quizzes, contests, and interactive activities.

Experts from various fields addressed the students. Oksana Simukhina, a specialist at the Regional HIV Prevention Center, and Asiya Sharipova, a dermatovenereologist at the Center, spoke about HIV prevention and sexually transmitted infections. Zarina Popova, an operative officer of the Drug Crime Prevention Unit of the North Kazakhstan Regional Police Department and Police Captain, discussed the legal consequences of drug trafficking and criminal liability for drug-related offenses. Natalya Kachalkina, Director of the Psychological Support Center of the North Kazakhstan Region Education Department, highlighted the importance of psychological support and maintaining young people’s emotional well-being.

The winners and participants of the event received commemorative prizes.

“Adolescence is a period when habits, values, and attitudes toward health are formed. That is why it is so important to speak openly and in a timely manner with young people about HIV prevention and sexually transmitted infections. Reliable information helps teenagers make informed decisions, take care of themselves, and avoid risky behavior. Since the beginning of the academic year, the Center’s specialists have conducted 99 meetings with students from schools and colleges in Petropavlovsk,” said Asiya Sharipova, dermatovenereologist at the Regional HIV Prevention Center.
