An online seminar under this title was held at the Kazakh Scientific Center for Disease Control and Prevention on January 30th as part of World Leprosy Day.

Russian experts briefed participants on:

  • clinical manifestations of leprosy;
  • the WHO global leprosy strategy;
  • leishmaniasis;
  • pigment disorders;
  • papular dermatoses;
  • skin manifestations of tropical infections.

Seytaliev, Chief Physician of the Kazakh Republican Leprosarium, shared the latest news on this topic from the WHO subregional seminar on strengthening efforts to eliminate leprosy in EECA countries, held in December 2025 in Tashkent. A. Nurgaliyeva, head of the dispensary department of the Kazakh Republican Leprosarium, shared her experience in diagnosing and treating leprosy.

Resident physicians from the Kazakh Scientific Center for Children's Health presented their reports.

The seminar participants initiated a charity campaign to help leprosy patients. At the request of the leprosarium patients, an induction stove, cookware, and special hand creams were purchased for them.

As a reminder, no new cases of leprosy have been registered in Kazakhstan for eight years. Currently, the country is seeing a decline in leprosy incidence. There are no children or adolescents among the affected individuals. Leprosy affects exclusively the elderly, which is typical of fading outbreaks of this infection.
