Within the framework of the World AIDS Campaign, a conference «Topical issues of HIV infection in modern conditions» was held under the organization of the Astana City Public Health Department, dedicated to comprehensive measures to prevent the spread of HIV infection, improve the quality of diagnosis, discuss new approaches, standards and interaction between medical organizations.
Opening the conference, the experts emphasized the relevance of the issues discussed: «Active HIV detection at an early stage, timely administration of therapy and monitoring of its effectiveness are key conditions for achieving a stable reduction in morbidity,» said S.B. Musina, Deputy Director of the HIV Prevention Center.
The participants were presented with the trends and epidemiology of HIV infection, indications for examination, risks for medical workers, and emergency models. The head of the Epidemiological Department, B.K. Kultanova, noted that monitoring the quality of the examination according to clinical indications shows insufficient coverage of the examination and detection of HIV in some PHC. «Most new cases are detected during hospitalization. We need to increase attention to screening for clinical indications at the primary health care level, since early diagnosis directly affects the prognosis and effectiveness of treatment,» she stressed.
The head of the medical and preventive department, G.T. Shayakhmetova, spoke about the principles of ART and management of PLHIV with concomitant diseases, the specifics of managing patients in the older age group, and the route of the patient being referred for treatment of viral hepatitis C.
According to the participants, such events allow for the exchange of experience between specialists, the sharing of professional knowledge, and the joint identification and elimination of possible gaps in practical activities.
