The results of the joint work

On January 10, doctors of the AIDS Center in Almaty, the Center for Mental Health and points of Trust discussed the results of joint work for 2023.

 The doctors of the AIDS Center familiarized their colleagues with the HIV surveillance, positive trends and problematic issues in Almaty.

 Two innovations in the work were noted. The first is the implementation of self-testing within the ICAP project. On the website of the AIDS center, you can order an express HIV test and perform the analysis yourself. Second, pre-contact HIV prevention has been introduced to reduce the risk of infection, and the use of ARVs by healthy (uninfected) people from key population groups.

 The meeting presented the results of a study on epidemiological monitoring of HIV prevalence among people who inject drugs (LUIN). 389 people took part in it. The study showed a 1.8-fold decrease in the prevalence of HIV infection among PWID compared to 2018.

 Today, 19 trust points are operating in the city to increase HIV prevention among key population groups. 32 outreach workers are involved in working with LUIN. For them, the doctors of the AIDS Center regularly conduct trainings and seminars.

 The meeting participants discussed common goals for improving joint activities:

- provide HIV screening for at least 80% of the coverage of preventive measures;

- to strengthen the work on the coverage of testing of drug addicts registered in narcology;

-to intensify the activities of rapid HIV screening at points of trust;

- strengthen the work on referral of clients to receive advice from specialized specialists (dermatovenerologist, narcologist).
