Open Day in the central hospitals of the Karasai and Talgar districts

On November 29, 2023, residents of 2 large districts of the Almaty region were given the opportunity to get advice, undergo rapid testing for HIV, determine the level of glucose and cholesterol in the blood, and measure blood pressure. Specialists from the AIDS Center spoke about HIV prevention, including ways of transmitting the virus, how to protect yourself from infection and what misconceptions exist about HIV.

Every year, more than 12% of the region's population is tested for HIV, thanks to the availability and timeliness of testing; more than 70% of cases are detected in 1-2 early stages of the disease. Timely diagnosis increases patient access to antiretroviral therapy, which is provided free of charge in Kazakhstan. 226 people took part in the event, they were tested for HIV, there were no positive results. 303 information and educational tools and 720 condoms were distributed.

Also, employees of the center’s preventive work department, together with specialists from the healthy lifestyle room, held a seminar for students of the Ayazhan Medical College, located in the Karasai district. Students were provided with information about HIV prevention, including how the immunodeficiency virus is transmitted and how to protect themselves from infection. The speakers paid special attention to interpersonal communication skills and gave motivation to future medical workers. 60 students took part in the event, and 120 information and educational materials were distributed.
