November 29, 2023

On November 29, 2023, as part of the World AIDS Day, a press conference for media journalists with the participation of non-governmental organizations was held at the Center for the Prevention of HIV Infection in Astana.

On the eve of World AIDS Day, Astana joined the UNAIDS Global Campaign, which is held under the motto «Leadership to Communities». The campaign will run from November 20 to December 1. «The world can end AIDS if communities lead the fight. Community organizations facing HIV are at the forefront of countering the epidemic. Communities connect people with human-centered public health services, build trust, innovate, monitor policy implementation and service delivery»,- notes UNAIDS.

As the head of the Center for HIV Prevention of Astana K.Askarov noted, various measures are being taken in the capital to ensure high-quality access of all population groups to HIV prevention and treatment services. Thus, along with the provision of services in medical organizations, representatives of key population groups can be tested for HIV using non-invasive rapid tests and receive counseling in AIDS-service non-governmental organizations. Every year, more than 25% of the city's population is tested for HIV, thanks to the availability and timeliness of testing, more than 80% of cases are detected in 1-2, early stages of the disease. Timely diagnosis increases patients' access to antiretroviral therapy, which is provided free of charge in Kazakhstan.

The press conference was attended by journalists of the media of TC «24 KZ», «The First channel «Eurasia», TC «Astana», correspondents of the news agency «Tengri News» and from the website «Elorda info».
