TRAINING ON INDEX TESTING IN PAVLODAR

The Pavlodar HIV Prevention Center is hosting a training on index testing (IT) for clinicians, epidemiologists, nurses and representatives of non-governmental organizations. The two-day workshop aims to build the capacity of staff to identify and screen the sexual and injecting partners of people living with HIV.

In their presentation materials, trainers from ICAP, CDC, USAID, EpiC project presented international experience and best practices in organizing the index testing process. Program participants gained new knowledge about the seven steps, the four methods of reporting, confidentiality, and alternative methods of partner reporting.

Participants were trained in self-testing, violence risk assessment, and monitoring of adverse effects through index testing. The trainees together with trainers discussed, practiced practical skills, solved situational problems. The trainers paid special attention to interpersonal communication skills, motivational counseling during testing.

Over the two days of training, about 50 training participants improved their knowledge on index testing of contact partners of people living with HIV.
