October 30, 2023

World Psoriasis Day is celebrated on October 29 under the patronage of the International Federation of Psoriasis Associations (IFPA) in more than 80 countries around the world. This Day is dedicated to people suffering from psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, and is aimed at raising public awareness of the disease.

6242 patients with a diagnosis of psoriasis have been officially registered in Kazakhstan. About 30% of them have moderate and moderate forms of the disease.

In our country, since 2020, psoriasis treatment has been included in the list of free outpatient drug provision and is funded under compulsory medical insurance. Patients receive effective genetically engineered biological therapy for free. It allows you to remove all the unpleasant symptoms of the disease, clean the skin from the manifestations of psoriasis, as well as prevent the progression of joint damage, and thereby improve the quality of life.

An innovative breakthrough against psoriasis was the method of phototherapy. At the initiative of the dermatovenerologist of the Kazakh Scientific Center of Dermatology and Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olga Smirnova, lamps and cabins for the phototherapy of psoriasis and vitiligo appeared in Almaty, Astana, Karaganda, Shymkent, semi-cabins - in Aktau, Almaty, Shymkent, local devices were installed in Astana, Atyrau, Karaganda, Kyzylorda, Uralsk, Shymkent. Today, more than 500 Kazakhstanis have already used this method of treatment.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease in which areas of the body are covered with plaques and scales. The disease can affect joints and even lead to disability. Skin rashes often cause physical and emotional discomfort and negatively affect the self-esteem and psychological well-being of patients.

Social stigma in society often creates obstacles for patients to receive accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. This can lead to a delay in the start of treatment and an increase in the symptoms of the disease.

The latest world scientific data estimate the number of people suffering from psoriasis at several million.
