Visit of Professor Robert Hamer, USA to the HIV Center of Astana

On September 18, 2023, Robert Hamer, PhD, Professor of Epidemiology and Pharmacology at the Yale Institute of Global Health, and Syed Ali, Professor at the Nazarbayev University School of Medicine, visited the Center for HIV Prevention in Astana.

The guests were interested in Kazakhstan's experience in working with key population groups and the work of non-governmental organizations. During the meeting, the guests visited a diagnostic laboratory, a Point of trust, a friendly office, a mobile point of trust, a treatment room, and got acquainted with the work of the treatment and prevention department.

At the round table, the heads presented presentations on the main tasks of the departments, discussed the goals and objectives of microbiological research in the field of HIV, and exchanged views of specialists from both sides on issues of interest.

At the end of the meeting, the parties made proposals on further consideration of cooperation with the Kazakh Scientific Center of Dermatology and Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of prevention, treatment of HIV infection and scientific research among people living with HIV.
