On August 28, representatives of state, international and non-governmental public organizations discussed an advocacy plan against HIV-related stigma and discrimination for 2023-2025 in the Republic of Kazakhstan at a working meeting in the KNCDIZ.
The participants identified and detailed tasks for the implementation of important points of the document, including:
- bringing the country's legislation into line with international norms ratified by the Republic of Kazakhstan,
- improving the quality of service provision in healthcare institutions,
- expanding access to crisis centers,
- improving the quality of sexual and reproductive health services,
- empowering key population groups (REG).
The goal of the advocacy plan is to reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV (PLHIV) and REN by making appropriate changes to national legislation and ensuring access to vital HIV-related services for REN and PLHIV.
The need for an advocacy plan was actualized after a broad public discussion following the results of a study of the PLHIV Stigma Index in the country. Today, the Stigma Index has been conducted in more than 100 countries of the world with the participation of more than 100 thousand PLHIV.
