August 25, 2023

On August 25, B. Baiserkin, Director of the KNCDIZ of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, made a working trip to the Abai region.

During the visit, B. Baiserkin met with the staff of the regional Center for HIV Prevention, got acquainted with the work of departments, visited the point of trust. The Director of KNCDIZ together with the head of the territorial department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control N. Ibraev held a meeting on improving the quality of services for people living with HIV (PLHIV).

Recently, the regional center, under a grant from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, received new equipment for the laboratory, which positively affected the quality of work and increased the reliability of the test results.

The staff of the center actively conducts seminars, lectures and trainings on ways of transmission and measures of protection against HIV for medical specialists, teachers, police officers, business structures.

As of July 31, 2023, a cumulative total of 437 PLHIV were detected in the region. The prevalence of HIV among citizens aged 15-49 years was 0.1%.

Speaking to the doctors, the director of the KNCDIZ noted that today only 65 percent of HIV-positive people in the region know their status. Other constraining trends are the low coverage of HIV index testing of PLHIV partners who are on dynamic observation and insufficient detection of STIs among key population groups (REG).

To improve the epidisituation, it is necessary to strengthen the work on the direction of REM for pre-contact prevention, increase the coverage of testing and preventive programs, and also pay attention to the treatment of viral hepatitis in PLHIV.
