The diagnostic laboratory of the Akmola Regional Center for HIV Prevention has received accreditation for compliance with the requirements of the ST RK ISO 15189-2015, issued by the National Accreditation Center. This became known on June 29 of this year.

– This was a great achievement of the center. Now the collection of biomaterials and the diagnosis of HIV, viral hepatitis B, C are carried out in our center according to international standards, says chief physician Kurmanbek Burmaganov.

By the way, the diagnostic laboratory of the center consists of four divisions: the department of enzyme immunoassays, clinical and biochemical, immunological studies and the department of polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It is equipped with modern automatic high-tech equipment that allows conducting research according to international requirements.

So, for 6 months of 2023, the center conducted more than 78 thousand HIV tests, more than 40 thousand for viral hepatitis and more than 1 thousand tests for sexually transmitted infections.   

According to Lyudmila Maslova, a laboratory assistant of the highest qualification category, the assignment of an accreditation certificate does not mean that all tasks have been completed to improve the efficiency and quality of the research carried out, but imposes higher requirements on the daily practical activities of the laboratory. This is the professionalism of the laboratory's specialists, equipping with modern equipment that meets international standards and an annual audit for compliance with the requirements of the standard.

It should be said that accreditation is a procedure for the official recognition by the accreditation body of the applicant's competence to perform work in a certain area of conformity assessment. Standard ST RK ISO 15189-2015 "Medical laboratories. Quality and competence requirements" was introduced in the Republic of Kazakhstan on January 1, 2016. The main objective of this standard is to develop and improve laboratory services in the field of healthcare, regardless of ownership and departmental affiliation.

The introduction of the standard by medical laboratories guarantees the consumer at the international level the high accuracy of the research carried out in the provision of medical services, and also increases the competitiveness of medical institutions in the field of healthcare.

As the chief physician of the medical organization notes, today all the necessary conditions have been created in the center for conducting high-quality laboratory tests, starting from the blood collection office and ending with the issuance of results.

– Qualified medical personnel, dedicated to their work and constantly in search of personal and professional competencies, modern medical equipment for the diagnosis of HIV infection, viral hepatitis, as well as immune status and determination of viral load in people living with HIV, premises that meet all standards have become the components of success and international the recognition of the laboratory service of our center, Kurmanbek Zhumabekovich notes.     

In conclusion, medical workers remind that earlier detection of the virus allows you to start treatment on time, improve the quality of life of patients and avoid the spread of infection. It is important to understand that saving the lives of people living with HIV begins with testing and all the necessary conditions have been created in the center for this.
