June 23, 2023

The XIII scientific and educational regional forum "20 regions of dermatovenerologists, dermatocosmetologists and leprologists" was held in Uralsk. The forum was organized by the Kazakh Scientific Center of Dermatology and Infectious Diseases together with the Department of Dermatovenerology of the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov and the Society of Dermatovenerologists, Dermatocosmetologists and Leprologists.

The forum was held within the framework of the World Vitiligo Day with the participation of well-known domestic specialists and scientists of the industry, as well as young doctors. In total, 120 delegates from all regions of the country took part in the forum. The event has traditionally been organized since 2015 and has already become a popular platform for scientific and practical communication.

The purpose of the current forum is to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation, exchange best practices and introduce innovations in the provision of specialized medical care.

The program of the event included lectures, presentations, master classes devoted to the problems of tactics and improving the quality of treatment of skin diseases. The doctors told about the effective possibilities of using biological therapy, dermatosurgery, phototherapy and other treatment tools in practice.

The participants got acquainted with the results of scientific research that has been conducted in the country and the world in recent years. A school of a young specialist with the participation of residents of the KNCDIZ worked at the forum, where individual clinical cases and features of diseases were discussed. Within the framework of the forum, consultations were held with patients with chronic severe dermatoses and organizational and methodological assistance was provided to specialists of the Ural regional Skin and Venereological dispensary by doctors of the KNCDIZ. The focus of professional discussions was on the diagnosis and treatment of vitiligo and other common skin diseases.

The Ministry of Health has declared June Vitiligo Awareness Month. For the first time, the Kazakh city of Almaty was chosen as the international headquarters of the 13th World Vitiligo Day, which was celebrated on June 25, 2023.

Vitiligo causes lightening of the skin with spots on the face and body.  This is an unpredictable, chronic, non-infectious, autoimmune skin disease, which affects every hundredth person to varying degrees. Vitiligo is not fatal and does not cause any organic harm, but sometimes has a devastating effect on the social life of a sick person and his family. The disease can affect anyone at any age, but usually this condition develops before the age of twenty, which means that many children live with vitiligo.

More than 15 thousand patients have applied to Kazakhstan dermatological institutions with vitiligo problems in a year. This indicator is probably more than 2-3 times higher, since many doctors and patients are not informed about possible methods of treating vitiligo. Many, due to shyness, public condemnation and stigma, prefer to hide the disease and do not go to the doctor's appointments, which is a serious obstacle to treatment.
