Action at the Polytechnic College of Astana

Every year, on the third Sunday of May, the world holds the World Day of Remembrance of People who Died of AIDS. The purpose of this event is to honor the memory of people affected by AIDS, to inform society about the ways of HIV transmission, ways to protect against infection and timely diagnosis of the disease, about the risk factors of infection.

On 17.05.2023, a large-scale action was held on the basis of the Polytechnic College of Astana for the Day of Remembrance of People who Died of AIDS. This event was held by the Center for the Prevention of HIV Infection of the Akimat of Astana, with the support of the Public Foundation «Step into the Future». More than 150 students took part in the action, who received information about the ways of HIV transmission, about safe sexual behavior, about the role of antiretroviral therapy, and learned the history of this memorable date. Students also took an active part in the quiz, in which they received prizes relevant for young people (headphones, speakers, sports bags) for correct answers.

During the campaign, participants were asked to undergo anonymous rapid HIV testing. A total of 46 people passed the rapid testing.

The action ended with a flash mob from students of the Polytechnic College, the children received flyers and leaflets for self-study of information on HIV.
