Round table with NGOs on HIV prevention

On the eve of the International Day of Remembrance of People Who Died of AIDS, which is traditionally held on the third Sunday of May, a round table with representatives of non-governmental public organizations was held at the Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS in Almaty.

Memorial Day today is an opportunity to demonstrate readiness and desire to resist the further spread of HIV infection, to draw public attention to the problem of HIV, to the interests of people living with HIV. In the implementation of these directions, the role of NGOs is high, which do a lot of work with key population groups together with the doctors of the AIDS Center.

Today there are more than 10 HIV service NGOs in Almaty that implement various projects related to HIV prevention, overcoming stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV, popularization of knowledge among young people and the population.

The participants shared the results of their work and the problems that reduce its effectiveness. The head of the Almaty Model of HIV Epidemic Control project, M. Sauranbayeva, spoke about cooperation and the importance of regular information exchange between NGOs and the AIDS Center and the practice of interdisciplinary teams working with patients. Director of the Center for the Study of Global Health in Central Asia A. Terlikbaeva presented the results of successful partnership in the implementation of crowdsourcing projects. Young employees and volunteers of the public association "Equal to Equal" offered their concept of preventive work with teenagers. Project Manager of the public foundation "AFEW Kazakhstan" A. Li spoke about the interim results of the project "Mobilization of youth against gender inequality and domestic violence".

The best NGOs were awarded letters of thanks for their active work on HIV prevention.

- Today we : government and non-governmental organizations are working together with one goal - to reduce the spread of HIV and stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV. Thanks to effective collaboration, we solve current problems together.
