KNCDIZ specialists took part in a regional meeting dedicated to accelerating the processes of improving HIV testing in the EECA countries, which was held on February 13-14 in Geneva.
HIV testing is a priority for achieving the first goal of the UNAIDS 95-95-95 strategy in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. To increase the number of people who know their status, countries need to bring HIV testing strategies in line with WHO recommendations, namely, to increase the access of people at risk to HIV testing services, using approaches such as:
- index testing of sexual and injection partners of PLHIV,
- self-testing,
- decentralization of services.
This will allow identifying new cases of HIV and prescribing treatment for PLHIV in a timely manner.
During the meeting, the countries that switched to WHO testing strategies familiarized their colleagues with the experience of switching to new HIV diagnostic algorithms, expanding rapid testing, and also shared the results and difficulties in implementing these measures.
