January 27, 2023

On January 27, as part of the World Leprosy Day, a scientific and practical seminar "Hansen's disease and dermatoses: today in the modern world" was held at the KNCDIZ. Among the participants: doctors, scientists, residents.

M. Seitaliev, head of the State Institution "Kazakh Republican Leprosarium" of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, acquainted the audience with the state of Hansen's disease (leprosy, leprosy) in the modern world and the Republic of Kazakhstan. T

Abubakir, leprologist, therapist, head of the department of the State Institution "Kazakh Republican Leprosarium" of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan told what leprosy is in differential diagnosis.

Doctors noted that since 2018 there have been no new cases and relapses of the disease in Kazakhstan. Among the patients identified over the past 40 years, there are no children and adolescents, which is typical for fading foci of leprosy. Leprosy in the country today is primarily affected by a predisposed to the disease, and not a stable population.

But today the doctors of the leprosarium face problems :

- migration of the population inside and outside the country,

- low knowledge of the diagnosis of leprosy among health workers and lack of leprosy awareness,

- leprophobia not only among the population, but also among health workers.

A lot of questions were raised by the presentation "Laboratory diagnostics of infections of the 21st century", which was presented by M. Rysuly, President of the Kazakhstan Association of Medical Laboratory Diagnostics, Professor KNCDIZ.

Doctors and scientists discussed in detail the current topics of "Leishmaniasis" and "Epidermolysis bullosa".

At the end of the seminar, the transfer of a charitable parcel to the Kazakh Republican Leprosarium took place. Yandex station Max and dried fruits will be very useful for the staff and patients of the leprosarium.
