Workshop on HIV testing for PWID

On January 18, 2023, a joint working meeting of the Health Department of the North Kazakhstan Region, the AIDS Center and Mental Health Centers was held in Petropavlovsk. On the agenda is the issue of increasing the coverage of PWID (people who inject drugs) with HIV testing.

The meeting participants discussed the current HIV epidemic situation

and the drug situation in the North Kazakhstan region, the problematic issues that arise during the testing of PWID and have developed joint ways to solve actual problems.

As a result of the meeting, each organization was given instructions to increase the testing coverage of PWID.

Including offering voluntary and confidential testing for the presence of HIV infection to people delivered for medical examination

to the examination room for alcohol and drug intoxication.

Another solution is to provide mental health center specialists with vehicles for examination of PWID.

Specialists of the epidemiological department and laboratory of the AIDS Center were instructed to conduct a seminar for employees of mental health centers and narcological offices in district hospitals on the topic: “Express testing of PWID who turned to narcologists, including with the use of rapid tests and perigingival fluid”.
