On November 16-17, a national training "Pre-contact HIV prevention among key population groups" was held in Almaty for doctors of friendly offices of AIDS Centers.

The organizer of the event is the Center for Scientific and Practical Initiatives within the framework of the AmanBol PrEP project with the support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The training was organized to train doctors of friendly offices to expand the availability of preventive programs for key population groups, including pre-contact prevention programs (PREP). 24 doctors from different regions of the country took part in the training.

The participants reviewed information on the implementation of the PREP program, existing barriers to its receipt and ways to overcome them. The participants' questions were answered by Nikolay Lunchenkov, LGBTIQ+ Health Coordinator at ECOM, and Pietro Vinti, WHO HIV Consultant.

The doctors agreed with the recommendations of the trainers - S. Kasymbekova and V. Vinogradov on the issuance of PREP, including with a shortened algorithm on the day of treatment, if the result of the HIV test is negative, so if the clients refuse to fill out a screening questionnaire, the doctor cannot refuse to issue PREP. The participants also received information about the implementation of the ideal model for the issuance of PREP.

An important component was training in the specifics of working with transgender people. The presentations were made by activists of the transgender initiative "Alma-TQ".
