A press conference dedicated to the World Day of Remembrance of People who Died of AIDS was held in Nur-Sultan

On May 13, 2022, a press conference for the media dedicated to the World Day of Remembrance of People Who Died of AIDS was held on the basis of the Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS in Nur-Sultan.

Director of the AIDS Center S.Abdraimov told reporters about the events held, the level of HIV incidence and prevention measures. During the decade, specialists conducted a number of large-scale events, primarily aimed at raising awareness of the population, especially young people, and also noted that currently, thanks to antiretroviral treatment and regular medical monitoring, HIV infection may not pass into the AIDS stage, this allows saving the lives of patients.

Compared with 7-8 years earlier, the life expectancy of people living with HIV registered at the Center has increased by 2.4 times. There are also clinically proven cases in the practice of the Center's doctors about the high effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy to reduce the risk of HIV infection and the birth of healthy children. Thus, the rate of perinatal transmission of HIV from mother to child is less than 1%.
