Visit of doctors and NGO representatives from Kyrgyzstan and Russia

On April 6, representatives of NGOs and medical organizations from Kyrgyzstan and Russia visited the AIDS Center in Almaty to study the experience of implementing pre-contact prevention (PREP).

The visit took place within the framework of cooperation with the project "Almaty Model for HIV Epidemic Control" and the Eurasian Coalition on Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity (ECOM).

Recall that pre—contact prophylaxis is the prophylactic administration of highly active antiretroviral therapy by people who do not have HIV in order to reduce the risk of possible infection with this virus. WHO recommends PREP to all people at increased risk of HIV infection — including men and women with an HIV-positive partner, men who have sex with men, transgender people, people who inject drugs, sex workers.

Within the framework of the visit, a round table was held "Exchange of experience in the introduction of pre-contact prevention in the city of Almaty. The results of the first year". The participants discussed the organization of PREP in Almaty, preventive work among the MSM group on the basis of the AIDS Center, as well as the advantages of introducing an online platform for HIV self-testing.

The participants of the visit visited a friendly office, got acquainted with the practical provision of PREP services, and also took part in a meeting with the outreach workers of the AIDS Center from the MSM group.
