"Day of Remembrance of the Dead - Stop AIDS"

 

On April 30, KSCDIZ MH RK organized an online round table dedicated to the World Day of Remembrance for People Who Died of AIDS.

 

The purpose of the event is to unite efforts, discuss tasks, opportunities and prospects for implementing the necessary measures in the country to reduce mortality from AIDS, the prevalence of HIV infection and eliminate stigma and discrimination in connection with HIV.

Director of KSCDIZ B. Baiserkin made a welcoming speech to the participants. In particular, he noted:-Every year on the third Sunday of May, the World AIDS Day is held all over the world. It was first organized in 1983 in the United States of San Francisco by a group of Americans who were personally affected by the problem of AIDS and since then the World Day of Remembrance of AIDS Deaths has been held in the world in order to draw the attention of the world community to the problems of HIV infection. In Kazakhstan, this day is also held annually. Its holding, despite the pandemic online, is another opportunity to demonstrate the relevance and readiness to counter the spread of HIV infection, save the lives and health of people living with HIV from coronavirus infection.Also, Gabriela Ionashcu, Acting Director of the UNAIDS Sub-Regional Office for Central Asia and Kazakhstan and Oksana Ibragimova - Acting President of the Kazakhstan Union of People Living with HIV.On the challenges of updating prevention measures and approaches in line with the New WHO / UNAIDS Global AIDS Strategy 2021–2026. “Eliminate inequality, end AIDS,” said Zhannat Musina, head. Department of Prevention and Public Relations KSCDIZ.Tatiana Davletgaliyeva, Grant Coordinator of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria KSCDID made a presentation “Consolidating the efforts of government and nongovernmental organizations to ensure the sustainability of HIV services”.Particular emphasis was placed on the New Global AIDS Strategy (2021–2026). It puts people in the spotlight and aims to bring countries, communities and partners together in the HIV response to take priority action to accelerate progress towards the goal of zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS deaths. The strategy seeks to empower people with the programs and resources they need to realize their rights, protect and thrive in the face of HIV.
