Briefing at the Zhambyl AIDS center

On the eve of the world AIDS day, celebrated annually on December 1, a briefing on "Global solidarity, shared responsibility"was held at the Zhambyl regional center for AIDS prevention and control.

The event was opened by the head of the prevention Department of the AIDS center, Galiya Sadybekova, who emphasized the importance of solidarity and shared responsibility in the fight against AIDS during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

COVID-19 has once again demonstrated that health is closely linked to other important issues, such as reducing inequality, human rights, gender equality, social protection, and economic growth. During a pandemic, no one will be able to stay safe until everyone is safe, " the speaker stressed. - If we want to succeed, we must not leave people without attention. In order to end the HIV and COVID-19 pandemics, it is necessary to eliminate stigma and discrimination and take human rights as the basis for action. In many ways, the victory over AIDS depends on how the world copes with COVID-19.

 

The briefing, which was attended by representatives of regional media, covered issues of stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV, providing people affected by HIV with information, services and social protection, as well as emergency situations of risk of HIV transmission for the population.

Thus, the infectious diseases doctor Gulmira Temirbekova spoke about the activities of the epidemiological Department, and then paid special attention to the fact that the state at the legislative level protects people with HIV from stigma and discrimination, and all categories of the population, especially employers, should know about this.

In turn, dermatologist Yevgenia Stratula, who runs a friendly office at the AIDS center, introduced the journalists to the principles of treatment and new areas of work that will be implemented from next year.

With a message about a preexposure vaccination program and post exposure prophylaxis among the population and for health professionals made medical epidemiologist Sarah Dulambaeva.

Epidemiologist Alexander JI spoke clearly and meaningfully about the epidemic situation in the world, Kazakhstan, and in particular in the Zhambyl region, as well as about gender equality among people with HIV, giving interesting examples and facts.

 

The speakers answered many questions received during the briefing, and thus revealed the most pressing issues of their work, calling on journalists to work together in HIV prevention.
