On September 16, specialists from the Almaty City Center for AIDS Prevention and Control held a working meeting with medical staff from city polyclinics to discuss the timely detection of HIV infection.
The discussion focused primarily on raising awareness among medical professionals and ensuring the timely ordering of tests. Early HIV detection enables the prompt initiation of antiretroviral therapy, allowing the infection to be controlled and the patients' quality of life to be maintained.
During the meeting, specialists reviewed clinical scenarios where recommending HIV screening is crucial and discussed specific signs and conditions that warrant additional testing. Particular attention was paid to the collaboration between primary healthcare providers and the AIDS Center.
"Timely referral for screening, accurate assessment of risk factors, and careful attention to disease manifestations help reduce the time between the initial consultation and diagnosis," noted A. Nurkerimova, Deputy Director of the Almaty City AIDS Center.
The specialists emphasized that modern testing methods can detect HIV infection even in the absence of pronounced symptoms. Once a diagnosis is confirmed, the patient is prescribed the necessary treatment to control the infection and reduce the risk of complications.
Such working meetings aim to enhance the professional knowledge of medical staff and improve approaches to the early detection of HIV infection.
