Nearly 20,000 donors have been tested for HIV in Almaty since the beginning of the year

Specialists from the Almaty AIDS Center, Blood Center staff, and transfusion physicians from medical organizations discussed the results of their joint work during the first half of the year at an online meeting held on July 9.

Meeting participants analyzed the results of their collaboration and discussed pressing issues related to ensuring donor blood safety and preventing HIV transmission during medical care. The results of the first half of the year showed an increase in the number of blood transfusions compared to the same period last year.
Particular attention is being paid to donation safety. Donors, as well as recipients of blood, organ, tissue, germline, and fetal cell transfusions, are under constant monitoring by specialists. Since the beginning of the year, approximately 20,000 donors have been tested for HIV in Almaty, which is an important part of the infection control system.
Meeting participants focused on preventing HIV transmission through blood and other biological fluids, as well as during organ and tissue transplantation. To improve the effectiveness of this work, AIDS Center specialists regularly conduct training seminars for Blood Center staff, provide organizational and methodological assistance, and consult with healthcare workers.
During the discussion, it was noted that key areas for future work remain improving the donor selection system, enhancing the quality of medical examinations, and ensuring compliance with all infection safety requirements at every stage of blood component procurement and transfusion.
