The Almaty AIDS Center, together with the City Center for Human Reproduction, held the campaign "My Health is in My Hands. My Choice is a Safe Life."

The event took place on May 24 on Arbat Street and brought together healthcare professionals, young people, residents, and visitors to discuss the topic of maintaining health and preventing socially significant diseases.
"The main goal of the campaign was to raise public awareness about the importance of taking a responsible approach to one's own health, preventing HIV and sexually transmitted infections, as well as maintaining reproductive and psycho-emotional health," noted M. Tukeyev, Director of the Almaty Center for AIDS Prevention and Control.
The organizers placed special emphasis on HIV prevention and timely testing. All 96 people who wished to participate were given free, confidential, and anonymous rapid HIV testing. Results were available within 20 minutes. AIDS Center specialists have noted an increase in testing among Almaty residents. Every year, more than 20 percent of Almaty residents learn their HIV status. AIDS Center medical workers visit educational institutions and businesses to conduct rapid testing and promote HIV awareness.
The event's informational platforms were primarily aimed at young people.
"Participants had the opportunity to receive free consultations with specialists—a pediatric gynecologist, a urologist, and an epidemiologist. Doctors discussed modern methods of STI prevention, the need for regular medical examinations, early diagnosis of diseases, and the importance of developing a culture of health care from adolescence," said G. Koshkimbayeva, Director of the City Center for Human Reproduction.
The event featured interactive areas with quizzes, thematic surveys, and distribution of informational materials. Participants actively engaged in discussions of current issues related to HIV and STI prevention, healthy lifestyles, and maintaining psycho-emotional health. Open information and accessible testing remain among the most effective tools in the HIV response. Public events help make medical care and consultations more accessible to the population and promote public health.
