May 15, 2026

The Astana HIV Prevention Center summed up the results of its activities for 2025 at a meeting of the Medical Council. Heads of departments made presentations on key indicators, achievements and problematic issues. During the presentations, issues related to the prevention of sexual transmission of HIV infection, the implementation of preventive programs among key population groups, as well as clinical monitoring were discussed.

Thus, in Astana, the HIV prevalence among the population aged 15-49 years is maintained at 0.36%. HIV testing coverage was 27.3%, antiretroviral therapy coverage was 92%, and the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy was 94%. However, there are issues that require analysis, revision, and appropriate optimization.

Denis Panchenko, Acting Director of the HIV Prevention Center, summing up the meeting, noted that along with achieving target indicators, it is necessary to focus on the quality of implemented measures, including adherence to ART, participation in preventive programs, and accessibility of health care services for key populations. It is also necessary to continue implementing the 95-95-95 strategy and expand interagency cooperation with government agencies and non-governmental organizations. In conclusion, priority tasks and specific ways of their implementation were identified, aimed at preventing, treating and reducing the spread of HIV infection.
