At a meeting on February 13 at the KSCDIH, further plans for cooperation were discussed and an additional agreement was signed with UNFPA for the procurement of condoms and lubricants for 2026-2027.
The agreement was signed by Roza Kuanyshbekova, Director of the KSCDIH, and Chinwa Ogbona, Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Kazakhstan and Country Director for Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.
The agreement was signed as part of a grant from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for 2024-2026, under which UNFPA provides HIV prevention supplies for key populations in Kazakhstan.
Meeting participants discussed the current results of their collaboration and identified priorities for future collaboration. These include:
- strengthening work with primary health care providers to prevent the birth of children with HIV and syphilis;
- intensifying informational, educational, and awareness-raising efforts;
- conducting research on programs to address the spread of STIs, including HIV;
- organizing surveillance in the regions.
As a reminder, UNFPA and the KRCDIZ have been systematically and effectively collaborating for many years in the areas of HIV and sexually transmitted infection prevention, epidemiological surveillance, scientific research, and the development of clinical and programmatic approaches.
