A meeting with Petropavlovsk college students

On May 6, a meeting was held at the North Kazakhstan Regional Children's and Youth Library named after Gabit Musrepov on the topic "Delinquency and crime among youth: causes and responsibility. HIV prevention." with college students in Petropavlovsk.

 

Employees of the North Kazakhstan Regional Center for the Prevention of HIV Infection took part in it.

The detective of the department for combating drug crime of the North Kazakhstan region police department, senior police lieutenant Zarina Popova told students about the consequences of drug use and distribution. She noted that it is often young people who are recruited into the drug trade, offering jobs as courier, packer and graffiti artist. As a result, they end up in prison

HIV prevention center specialist Oksana Simukhina recalled that drug use increases the risk of HIV infection.

– This can happen both through the parenteral route (through the blood) and through the sexual route. By using drugs, a person loses control and can become infected with HIV through casual sex.

Many other infections are transmitted in the same way: hepatitis B and C, syphilis, gonorrhea and others, – said Oksana Simukhina. – In our region, over two thousand people living with HIV are registered. Nowadays, sexual transmission predominates.

Also taking part in the event were the senior inspector of the juvenile police department of Petropavlovsk, police captain Dinara Mukanova and psychologist of the youth resource center Dina Baimakisheva.

More than 50 city college students attended the lecture.

They received information and educational brochures on HIV prevention.
