Online debate on HIV among prospective healthcare professionals

November 13, 2020

On November 13, 2020, an online debate of students of the Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University was held in Almaty. Future medical practitioners talked and debated about HIV, stigma and discrimination.

Thus, the students joined the World AIDS Day campaign under the slogan “Global Solidarity. Shared responsibility ”.

During the event, each team was assigned a specific topic and position: either "approving party" or "rejecting". A topic for discussion appeared on the screen. Each team had three minutes to discuss and prepare a response, and then two minutes to speak and defend their position.

A heated debate erupted when discussing the topics: “Every person needs to get an HIV test?”, “Is it possible to justify disclosing another person’s HIV status?”, “A manager can fire an HIV-positive employee if, in his opinion, there is a risk others? "

The discussion was judged by a professional jury, which included the medical staff of the AIDS Prevention and Control Center in Almaty. Students have confirmed a good knowledge of the topic!
