On November 11, 2020, the Regional Communications Service hosted a press conference dedicated to the World AIDS Campaign, entitled “Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility”.

The chief doctor of Akmola regional center for prevention and control of AIDS, Kurmanbek Burmaganov, and head of the center's prevention department, Zoya Khvan, spoke to the journalists there.

- Every year 1st of December marks World AIDS Day and people around the globe unite for demonstration of support for people living with HIV, remembering those who died of AIDS-related diseases – Burmaganov K. said - And in 2020, the world's attention is focused on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the lives and well-being of people. It showed us once again how closely the issue of health is linked to other important issues such as the fight against inequality, human rights, gender equality, social protection and the economy. That is why the theme of the World AIDS Day this year in Kazakhstan was “Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility”.

- In Kazakhstan, our region belongs to a region with an average incidence of HIV infection, in general, the epidemiological situation in the region remains stable, - Z. Khvan emphasized in her speech. - 90 HIV cases were registered in the region, incl. citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan - 89 (for 9 months of 2019 - 117 cases), there is a decrease by 28 cases. Kokshetau, Stepnogorsk, Burabay and Atbasar districts are in the lead in terms of the number of HIV-infected identified in 9 months.

- This year, in connection with the coronavirus pandemic in the republic, the time frame for the traditional month of fighting AIDS has been reduced, says Z. Khwan. - But this does not mean at all that we have reduced our activity, we have transferred all its events to the online mode, with the help of social networks. We have announced thematic contests among media representatives and bloggers, the results of which will be announced by December 1 - World AIDS Day.
