In the Abay region, a Coordination Council was held under the Regional Health Administration, chaired by the Deputy Head of Maternal and Child Health Asem Orynbaeva.
The agenda of the Coordination Council considered the results of the implementation of measures to prevent HIV infection in the Abay region for 2024 and tasks for 2025. The acting director of the Regional Center for the Prevention of HIV Infection, Raushan Rakhmetova, made a report.
Heads of more than 50 medical organizations in the region, including all district and interdistrict hospitals, took part in the online format.
The report presented the results of achieving the strategic goals of UNAIDS 95/95/95, the Memorandum on ensuring target indicators for HIV infection between the KSCDIZ and the Abay region for 2024. The indicators of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for the Abay region and the achievement of key epidemiological indicators were also discussed.
With a stable epidemiological situation regarding HIV infection in the region, there was a failure to achieve the percentage of PLHIV who know their status, a low percentage of referrals for HIV testing for clinical indications, some primary health care organizations did not achieve the percentage of screening of sexual partners.
In 2024, the heads of medical organizations in the region did not ensure that medical personnel were sent to training on current issues of prevention, diagnosis and treatment, as well as on reducing stigma and discrimination among PLHIV, which creates additional barriers to effective work in this area.
Deputy Head of Maternal and Child Health Asem Orynbayeva focused on the importance of examining sexual partners and preventing the transmission of HIV from mother to child.
“These aspects are critical to reducing the level of new cases of HIV infection and protecting the health of future generations,” emphasized Asem Orynbaeva.
In the minutes of the Coordination Council, a decision was made to conduct monthly monitoring of preventive measures carried out by PHC organizations and the Regional Center for the Prevention of HIV Infection, as well as the implementation of the Roadmap for the implementation of measures to prevent HIV infection in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2023-2026.
