The work of the AIDS center: brief, clear, accessible

January 17, 2025

A video clip about the work of the Karaganda Regional AIDS Center was prepared by a film crew from the press service of the Health Department of the Karaganda Region. The goal is to widely publicize the preventive and treatment measures carried out by the center to prevent the spread of HIV infection in the region.

The film crew, having arrived at the center, first talked with peer consultant Anastasia, who told her story about HIV infection, treatment and desire to help people faced with the immunodeficiency virus.

“We are people just like everyone else! Any discrimination and stigmatization generated by ignorance and fear only worsens the situation of people with HIV and contributes to the spread of this virus,” the girl noted. She also noted that the interaction of peer consultants with patients produces positive results: it becomes easier to accept your diagnosis, trust in doctors appears instead of anxiety, adherence to treatment improves, and depression decreases.

More details about HIV, its transmission, prevention and treatment were provided by infectious disease doctor Auesbaeva Shynar Kaiyrzhanovna. Talking about the disease, she emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and modern antiretroviral therapy, which can maintain the immunity and health of a patient with HIV at a good level.

“Every person should know their HIV status; this will not only help stop the spread of HIV, but also, in the event of infection, will give a person with HIV a chance to preserve their health and life as much as possible,” noted the infectious disease doctor.

Noting the importance of diagnosis, the film crew visited the laboratory of the AIDS center, where they filmed working moments. The Karaganda AIDS Center is equipped with modern equipment, which is operated by professionals, thanks to which detection of the virus in blood samples takes 30 minutes.

At the end of the video, AIDS center specialists once again reminded people of the need for conscious behavior that excludes the use of drugs and unprotected sex, mandatory compliance with preventive measures and knowledge of one’s HIV status. They also drew attention to the fact that in case of risky situations you should not rely on luck, but should take an HIV test, which is free and confidential.

Currently, the video is posted on the websites of the Health Administration of the Karaganda Region and on the website of the AIDS Center, as well as on popular social networks. Anyone can familiarize themselves with the information provided in this short video. Within a few days, the video received more than two thousand viewings, which confirms the relevance of the topic related to HIV.

Moreover, the video can be used as a short training course, for example, for demonstration to employees of enterprises, among youth, in educational institutions, which will be a good aid in HIV prevention.
