In Petropavlovsk, librarians were told how to competently and reliably convey information about HIV to teenagers and young people.
On January 16, 2025, a seminar on informing the population about HIV prevention was held at the Sabit Mukanov Regional Universal Library. The event was organized by the North Kazakhstan Regional Center for HIV Prevention and the Youth Resource Center of the city of Petropavlovsk.
Oksana Simukhina, a specialist at the HIV Prevention Center, noted: “Holding such events is very important, because librarians work with a wide variety of population groups and are often at the forefront of education issues. They help teenagers, young people and adults find reliable information, organize educational events. The task of specialists is to teach them to speak correctly and competently about HIV in order to combat stereotypes, reduce stigmatization and prevent the spread of the disease."
A number of other important issues were also covered at the event. Thus, Zarina Popova, police captain, detective of the Drug Crime Control Department of the North Kazakhstan Region, spoke about the harm of drugs and criminal liability for their illegal circulation.
Ayimgul Kanasheva, family doctor and head of the youth health center, drew the participants' attention to the importance of reproductive health of young people. Ainur Nysanbaeva, deputy director of the KGU "Psychological Support Center" of the Education Department of the Akimat of the North Kazakhstan region, spoke about psychological health issues.
At the end of the event, participants were given informational and educational materials on HIV prevention.
