The Stigma Index 2023-24: preliminary results

The preliminary results of the Stigma Index study conducted in 2023-24 in Kazakhstan were discussed on January 15 by participants of a working meeting at UNAIDS.

 

Among the participants are representatives of state, international, and non-governmental public organizations.

The first such study in Kazakhstan was conducted in 2015, and the last one in 2021. The preliminary results of the 2023-24 study were presented by consultants from the Central Asian Association of People Living with HIV-B. Asembekov and P. Savvin. For the first time, the in-depth interview method was used in the study. The general trend is that the level of stigma has hardly changed compared to the previous study.

The presenters noted that 1,379 respondents from various regions of the country participated in the study. The focus of the research:

- internalized stigma,

- willingness to seek medical help,

- the beginning and reception of ART,

- reasons for postponing the start of ART,

- reasons for ART interruption,

- sexual and reproductive health,

- Human rights,

- Stigma and discrimination against key groups.

The results of the Stigma Index study will be presented in the near future.
