Interdepartmental meeting at the Akmola AIDS Center

On September 14, 2022, an interdepartmental meeting was held at the Akmola Regional Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS on the topic “Surveying HIV infection among people who inject drugs. Problems and solutions”.

The meeting was opened by the head of the treatment and preventive department of the health department of the Akmola region S. Tolukbaev, in his speech he noted the importance of the interaction of all involved services for the implementation of regulatory legal acts of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The chief physician of the AIDS Center K. Burmaganov focused on the organizational and methodological work of the AIDS Center specialists for medical workers of the regional mental health center and the achievement of target indicators in the examination of people who inject drugs (PWID).

  1. Khvan, Head of the Prevention Department of the AIDS Center, made a presentation on the epidemiological situation of HIV infection in the Akmola region for 7 months of 2022 and monitoring the survey of people who inject drugs with problematic issues based on the results of inspections in the years. Kokshetau, Stepnogorsk and name-by-surname reconciliation of surveyed PWID in the laboratory information system of the AIDS Center.

Mukhamedyarova, Deputy Chief Physician of the Regional Mental Health Center (CHC), presented a report on the implementation of Order No. 211 dated November 27, 2020 “Rules for mandatory confidential medical examination for the presence of HIV infection” in the region, outlined problems in the examination of PWID - search, evasion, refusal examinations.

In these matters, the assistance of the police is needed, often there is no feedback - answers to the letters of the CHP. Deputy head of the local police service of the Police Department of Kokshetau, Lieutenant Colonel E. Yerzhanov, proposed to intensify organizational work with the CHC, establish feedback and assist in the search and delivery of evading PWID for HIV testing.

The meeting was constructive, in the form of a dialogue, as a result of which conclusions were drawn and proposals were developed to achieve the planned targets for screening PWID for HIV infection.
