April 19-20 in Almaty, spokesmen for the regional AIDS Centers and Mental Health Centers raised awareness of the Opioid Agonist Maintenance Therapy (OPTA) program.
Participants learned to identify truth, lies and manipulation of information on PTAO, use the correct vocabulary, write materials for websites, and create creative content. The meeting with the program participants from Almaty and with the director of the Kazakhstan Union of People Living with HIV, O. Ibragimova, dispelled many doubts and made it possible to understand the details of the topic. The training was organized by the Republican Mental Health Center in partnership with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The participants went home not only with new knowledge, but also with ideas on how to polarize the topic.A pilot project on PTAO in Kazakhstan began to be implemented in 2008. Today therapy is carried out in 10 regions: Pavlodar, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semey, Aktobe, Almaty, Karaganda, Uralsk, Rudny, Kostanay, Ekibastuz, Atyrau, Taraz, Temirtau, Kzylorda, Lisakovsk. As of April 1, 2022, the number of program participants is 277 people.
