Midwives of maternity hospitals in Almaty have been trained

On March 14, doctors of the Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS in Almaty held a seminar on HIV infection prevention for midwives of the emergency departments of maternity hospitals.

The participants were familiarized with the main regulatory documents of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Department of Public Health of Almaty on the organization of work on HIV prevention in medical organizations.

How to do rapid testing for HIV infection and determine the result, said the acting head of the prevention department A. Zaurbekova. Pediatrician G. Usenova made a presentation on "Postpartum monitoring of children born to HIV-positive mothers". Gynecologist M. Shokybayeva told about the prevention of HIV transmission from mother to child, the peculiarities of pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period in HIV infection.

The specialists of the AIDS Center elaborated on the topics of psychosocial counseling before and after HIV testing, postpartum monitoring of children born to HIV-positive mothers, the actions of health workers in case of emergency situations, post-exposure prevention, prevention of stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
