Intradepartmental meeting was held in the city of Kokshetau

On February 23, 2022, an intradepartmental meeting was held in the city of Kokshetau between the Akmola Regional Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS and the Regional Mental Health Center.

The meeting, which addressed the survey of people who inject drugs, was attended by deputy chief physicians, heads, doctors and nurses of institutions.

Saule Zhakanova, deputy chief physician of the Akmola AIDS Center, made an opening speech, noting that despite the fact that our region belongs to a region with an average incidence rate, the epidemiological situation with HIV infection remains unstable, however, a survey of people who inject drugs , who are under dynamic observation at the Mental Health Center, remains at an insufficiently high level.

Epidemiologist Asel Baltabayeva presented an analysis of the survey of people who inject drugs, pointing out the problems with the accuracy of providing data by the Mental Health Center. The specialist also familiarized colleagues with changes in the regulatory framework, focusing on the possibility of using saliva rapid tests in working with drug addicts who apply to organizations providing mental health care or to narcologists in primary health care organizations, with this, talking in detail about the principle of their action, advantages, as well as demonstrating the methodology for performing the procedure in a visual way.

Reports on the survey were also made by representatives of the Mental Health Centers - the heads of two city centers Aizina Syzdykova and Natalia Voronovskaya.

Further, Gulnara Sheshmukanova, head of the diagnostic laboratory of the AIDS Center, spoke about the peculiarities of working with express tests for the diagnosis of fourth generation HIV, giving the staff of the Mental Health Center an opportunity to work out practical skills.

The meeting ended with a summing up, where it was decided to continue joint cooperation in order to prevent the spread of HIV infection among people who inject drugs.
