Youth “HIV Party” in the Abai RegionIn the Abai region, events dedicated to World AIDS Day continue under the motto: “From Challenges to Transformations in Response to HIV.”
The Regional Center for HIV Prevention, with the support of the leadership of Alikhan Bokeikhanov University, organized one of the main campaign events: an interactive youth event called the “HIV Party.”
The speakers at the event included Dilara Tukeeva, a doctor from the Regional Center for HIV Prevention; Adil Kadyrgaliev, a representative of the NGO “SocKZ”; and a person living with HIV.
Adil Kadyrgaliev, as a public figure, spoke about how he maintains openness when society is not always ready for honesty and what it means for him to be a person of support.
The person living with HIV shared their life story: how they accepted their status, their motivation for antiretroviral (ARV) treatment, and their active role in educating youth about HIV prevention.
Dilara Tukeeva emphasized that knowledge and openness play a key role in reducing stigma against people living with HIV. When society understands how HIV is transmitted, that modern therapy allows people to live full lives, and that it does not pose a risk to others, fear and prejudice disappear.
In a live dialogue format, students discussed the most important HIV prevention issues, debunked common myths and stereotypes, and highlighted the importance of regular testing and supporting people living with HIV.
During the event, an educational quiz in the Kahoot game format was held to test participants’ knowledge about HIV. The most active participants were awarded prizes from the organizers.
Students showed high engagement, and at the end of the event, all interested attendees underwent rapid HIV testing.

A conference dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HIV infection was held in AstanaWithin the framework of the World AIDS Campaign, a conference «Topical issues of HIV infection in modern conditions» was held under the organization of the Astana City Public Health Department, dedicated to comprehensive measures to prevent the spread of HIV infection, improve the quality of diagnosis, discuss new approaches, standards and interaction between medical organizations.
Opening the conference, the experts emphasized the relevance of the issues discussed: «Active HIV detection at an early stage, timely administration of therapy and monitoring of its effectiveness are key conditions for achieving a stable reduction in morbidity,» said S.B. Musina, Deputy Director of the HIV Prevention Center.
The participants were presented with the trends and epidemiology of HIV infection, indications for examination, risks for medical workers, and emergency models. The head of the Epidemiological Department, B.K. Kultanova, noted that monitoring the quality of the examination according to clinical indications shows insufficient coverage of the examination and detection of HIV in some PHC. «Most new cases are detected during hospitalization. We need to increase attention to screening for clinical indications at the primary health care level, since early diagnosis directly affects the prognosis and effectiveness of treatment,» she stressed.
The head of the medical and preventive department, G.T. Shayakhmetova, spoke about the principles of ART and management of PLHIV with concomitant diseases, the specifics of managing patients in the older age group, and the route of the patient being referred for treatment of viral hepatitis C.
According to the participants, such events allow for the exchange of experience between specialists, the sharing of professional knowledge, and the joint identification and elimination of possible gaps in practical activities.

Concert Program for World AIDS Day in a Women's ColonyAt Women's Colony No. 10, located in the village of Zhaugaushty in the Almaty region, a concert program was held dedicated to World AIDS Day. The event aimed to raise awareness among incarcerated women about HIV and sexually transmitted infections, strengthen knowledge on prevention, and promote a tolerant attitude toward people living with HIV.
During the program, the host welcomed the participants and introduced the theme of the day, emphasizing the importance of preventive work and respectful treatment of people affected by HIV. Next, invited guests were introduced, including the senior physician of the institution’s medical service, B. Rakhimberdiev, Acting Deputy Head of the Institution for Educational Work, Major of Justice A. Seitov, and epidemiologist of the Almaty Regional AIDS Center, A. Ibraimova.
The informational and musical segment included the screening of videos about HIV, artistic performances by pre-trial detainees, and musical numbers. The program was conducted in an atmosphere of open dialogue and educational focus, allowing participants to expand their knowledge and receive answers to pressing questions.
At the conclusion of the event, the host summarized the outcomes, after which representatives of the AIDS Center expressed their gratitude to the participants and presented certificates and commemorative gifts to the most active attendees.

Residents of Turkestan Support the Campaign “From Challenges to Change: Accelerating the HIV Response”As part of the campaign dedicated to World AIDS Day, specialists from the Regional Centre for HIV Prevention in Turkestan organized a large-scale motor rally titled “From Challenges to Change: Accelerating the HIV Response.” The event took place on the city’s main streets and drew the attention of both residents and visitors.
Every year on 1 December, the world marks World AIDS Day. According to the organizers, this date serves as a call to action to strengthen communities’ capacity to respond to HIV. Experts from the Centre emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about modern HIV treatment options, knowing one’s HIV status, and timely testing.
“Stigma and fear still prevent people from getting tested. Our goal is to show that learning your HIV status is simple, safe and essential for everyone. By knowing their status, individuals can continue practising prevention, and in case of a positive result, access early and effective treatment,”said Erkin Yesaliyev, epidemiologist at the Regional HIV Centre.
During the motor rally, specialists informed residents and visitors about free and anonymous rapid HIV testing, the possibility of receiving results in a short time, and counselling services available for those seeking information about HIV.
One participant shared his impressions:
“I believe that such awareness activities are very useful for the population. People will definitely be more willing to get tested to know their HIV status,”he said.

Rapid HIV testing for passengers and employees of Astana airportAbout 50 people were tested for HIV at Astana International Airport. The doctors of the HIV Infection Center conducted an express testing campaign for residents and guests of the capital, and also spoke about HIV prevention measures as part of the Global Campaign «From Challenges to Transformations in response to HIV.»
During the event, experts reminded about the basics of prevention, ways of transmission of the virus and stressed the importance of regular examinations. The participants were told that timely detection of infection allows them to start treatment at an early stage and maintain their quality of life.
Those interested actively engaged in the dialogue, asked questions about modern methods of diagnosis, treatment and common myths related to HIV. The doctors explained in detail which situations do not pose a risk, and reminded about the availability of free and confidential testing in the city.
As a result of the campaign, the airport's employees and passengers took advantage of the opportunity to undergo rapid HIV testing on the spot and receive expert advice.

Training on HIV Testing Motivation Held in ShymkentAs part of the Global Fund grant titled “Ensuring Sustainability and Continuity of HIV Testing and Prevention Services among Key Populations and Supporting Treatment Adherence among People Living with HIV,” a two-day training on engaging key populations in HIV testing using the Social Network Strategy (SNS) was held in Shymkent on 19–20 November.
The training brought together specialists from non-governmental organizations and HIV prevention centres from the regions participating in the Global Fund project.
Representatives of the Public Foundation “Community Friend” shared their successful experience from Almaty. From July 2024 to November 2025, 37 people from key populations tested positive for HIV through rapid testing conducted at the NGO. The SNS approach has proven to be an effective method for engaging key populations, increasing the detection of new HIV cases, and strengthening HIV prevention systems in Kazakhstan. This strategy helps to build sustainable community connections, reduce barriers to testing, and enhance the effectiveness of the national HIV response.
Participants gained practical skills in applying the SNS method through exercises and role-playing, preparing them to implement this approach in other regions of the country.
