Rapid testing for HIV infection using peri-gingival tests in Aktobe.

On January 18, in the Aktobe regional AIDS center, practical skills were worked out on the collection of biomaterial (peri-gingival fluid) and the technique of setting up an express test for HIV "OraQuick".

For the incoming control and the quality of the test, a panel of 4 dried test-tube samples at a dilution of 1:10 was used; 1:20; 1:80 and a negative sample, with parallel staging on the Alere HIV Combo express tests for capillary blood. The entrance control results of both tests were satisfactory and identical. The new test has been validated using peri-gingival fluid on individuals with previously known negative and positive status. Thus, the rapid tests "OraQuick", subject to all requirements, instructions and correct interpretation, can be widely used as a rapid test for HIV.

During the seminar, 14 employees of the AIDS Center were trained.
